It is a good idea to clean the brush tip regularly as the lipstick will smell if left for too long. Unless in constant use the brush has a tendancy to smell. A quick wipe with soap/make-up remover and a cotton pad will do the trick nicely. Don't let the brush get too wet and remember to let it dry thoroughly before using it again.
