microdermabrasion:
microderm-abrasion

Microdermabrasion is an exfoliation technique to remove the outer layer of dead skin from the face. Although commonly performed by a plastic surgeon, it is not a surgical procedure.

A device like a fine sandblaster is used to spray tiny crystals across the face to remove the dead outer layers.

A microdermabrasion treatment usually take between 30 minutes to one hour, and several sessions may be required to achieve the effects of rejuvenation - reduction of fine lines and uneven skin tone. There are now microderm-abrasion home kits available.
