glossary definition:
peel:
face peel, chemical peel

A "peel" is the physical or chemical removal of the outer layer of skin. Usually a face peel is something that is performed by a certified dermatologist.

However, there are now several home face peel products available. These usually fall into the chemical peel category - using active agents to remove the outer dead layer of skin from the face, reducing wrinkles and exposing new skin.

Physical peels are also available, usually some form of microdermabrasion.

Longtime acne sufferers have reported positive results from this technique.

A full face peel will take about one hour, smaller areas will take 15 to 30 minutes.

A chemical face peel will not tighten or plump the skin, nor will it remove deep grooves or folds.

A face peel removes the skin's natural tanning ability, making the use of sunscreen mandatory.
