When it comes to enhancing the shape and appearance of the lips, there are many options. However, all treatments address different things and offer different results. From temporary tweaks to permanent transformations, understanding the difference is the key to choosing the right approach for your features and goals.

Surgical Lip Lift If You Are Looking for a Permanent Fix

A surgical lip lift works best for patients who have extra distance between their nose and mouth and are looking for the longest lasting solution. It provides dramatic change through a minor cosmetic operation that permanently repositions the upper lip. The surgeon removes a small strip of tissue below the nose to shorten the area between the nose and lip, which creates an upturned effect.

The procedure acts as a permanent outcome and can create enhanced upper-lip visibility and improved facial balance. This is beneficial as there is no need for repeat maintenance. However, with surgery comes surgical risks such as potential scarring and longer recovery, and its irreversible nature. For any questions or concerns, call our office at L&P Aesthetics to get in touch with one of our surgical coordinators.

Lip Filler for Volume

Lip filler is for those who want a higher volume or reshaping on their lips. This is for people with naturally thin or deflated lips, or really anyone looking for customized fullness or definition. Lip filler uses gel-like injectables, known as dermal fillers, that consist of typically hyaluronic acid.

This added wonderful volume, shape, and hydration directly into the lips. Filler allows for fine-tuned symmetry and contour of both upper and lower lips, according to the patient’s desires. This treatment has immediate and adjustable results, which can last from anywhere between 6-18 months, depending on the product and metabolism. A nice thing about dermal fillers is that they can be dissolved if you’d like!

Lip Flip For A Subtle, Temporary Lift

A lip flip using a neurotoxin, like BOTOX, works wonderfully for those with a mild “gummy” smile or lips that tuck inward when talking or smiling. The procedure involves injecting a tiny amount of neurotoxin into the muscle along the upper lip border.

The injection weakens the muscle slightly, to cause the lip to flip up and outward, creating the illusion of fullness without actually adding volume. Patients may prefer this as it is quick, non-surgical, with a little amount of downtime or bruising. However, it may not be for everyone because the effect is modest and does not have a long lasting effect.

In many cases, these procedures can be combined according to the patient’s wants or vision for themselves. Consultation is crucial and a qualified injector or surgeon should assess your lip anatomy, smile dynamics, and goals before choosing a treatment. Especially with fillers, at L&P we value our patients to give them a harmonious and desired outcome.
