Forever Young BBL™
BroadBand Light (BBL) utilizes the power of pulsed light to treat skin conditions associated with aging, sun damage, hyper-pigmentation acne and excess hair growth.
Unlike many lasers and light-based treatments, BBL addresses the underlying layers of your skin where much of the aging occurs. Also unlike many laser treatments, BBL is safe for almost all skin types (except Skin Type 6) and has almost no downtime.
How Does BBL Work?
BBL works by sending light energy into your skin. When the heat is absorbed, the energy stimulates your skin cells to generate new collagen. Through this process your skin gets restored to its natural beauty, colors are blended and your skin looks smoother, more vibrant and younger-looking. In addition, the photo-thermal energy of BBL eliminates the vessels that cause redness and reduces unwanted melanin that produces pigmented lesions.
The highly trained R.N.s at L&P Aesthetics will select the appropriate wavelength of BBL for your particular skin type. People with Skin Type 6 (very dark skin) or people with melasma should not get BBL because the light energy could make their skin blotchy or darken unwanted pigment.
What Is The Difference Between BBL And Forever Young BBL™?
Forever Young BBL™ is simply a series of BBL treatments. Studies have shown that patients who receive multiple BBL treatments over several years see dramatic improvements in skin texture and actually appear younger than they did before beginning the treatments.
A study published in the Journal of Investigative Dermatology shows that Sciton® BroadBand Light treatments can change the expression of genes associated with the aging process to more closely resemble young skin.
In this study conducted at Stanford University in 2013, an independent panel of 491 evaluators were asked to guess the ages of 15 test subjects who had been getting Forever Young BBL™ treatments. The panel guessed the subjects to be 11 years younger than they actually were.
This, and other studies like it, support the hypothesis that BBL technology actually alters the regulators of aging in human skin and provides a functional change, rather than just mimicking a youthful appearance.
*Treatments from the study were performed on the FDA-cleared Sciton® Joule using the BBL module.

What Skin Concerns Does Forever Young BBL™Treat?
By using multiple wavelengths of light, Forever Young BBL™ can address multiple issues in a single treatment. Some of these conditions are:
- Pigmented Lesions (e.g., freckles, age spots)
- Vascular Lesions (e.g., small blood vessels)
- Cherry Angiomas
- Acne
- Skin Firmness
- Uneven Skin Tone
- Unwanted Hair
In addition to the BBL module, we also offer Forever Clear BBL™ for acne and SkinTyte ™ to tighten skin on the face, neck and hands.
How Many BBL Treatments Will I Need?
In general, most people will need an initial series of four to six Forever Young BBL™ treatments and then one to two additional treatments each year for the next several years.
The number of BBL treatments needed varies from patient to patient and your provider at L&P Aesthetics will personalize a treatment plan based on the level of improvement you desire. We may also combine your treatment with other procedures, such as the Halo laser, to offer you the best results possible.

When Should I Start Forever Young BBL™?
The best time to start thinking about the signs of aging is before they appear. Forever Young BBL™ is not just a beauty treatment, but a preventive one. Men and women with any skin type (except Skin Type 6) can protect themselves against sun and environmental damage by adding Forever Young BBL™ into their overall treatment plan.
What Happens During A BBL Treatment?
Since BBL uses pulsed light energy, your eyes will be protected with safety shields. As the RN passes the BBL devise over your face and / or neck, you may briefly feel a warm or “rubber band snap” sensation as the light is absorbed by the targeted areas. Depending on how large of an area you are getting treated, the entire procedure may take a few minutes to half an hour.

How Much Downtime Should I Expect After BBL?
BBL is a noninvasive procedure with virtually no downtime. Most people will feel comfortable returning to work and resuming most activities the same day of treatment. Some people experience redness that should resolve within a few hours but this can be concealed with makeup.
After your BBL treatment, you will be very sensitive to ultraviolet light and must avoid direct sun exposure for at least two weeks. Make sure to fully cover your skin and use a good sunscreen when you go outdoors
For some pigmented lesions, you will see a darkening of the area followed by fading and flaking-off at a later stage. Your treated skin will feel smoother, fine lines and pores will be less noticeable and sunspots or uneven pigmentation will fade. *Results depend on your condition, the number of treatments, and the areas treated.
Can I Pair BBL With Other Cosmetic Treatments?
Absolutely! BBL works really well with almost every other cosmetic treatment with the exception of lip filler. If you are getting lip filler the same day as your BBL, make sure to have your BBL done first.
One of the most powerful skin resurfacing treatments we offer is our Halo BBLiss, which is a combination of BBL and the Halo Laser.
Is Forever Young BBL™Good For All Skin Types?
Forever Young BBL™ is safe for all skin types except for people with Skin Type 6 (very dark skin). Also, it’s important to know that if you have permanent makeup or facial tattoos, your provider cannot use BBL on those areas.
There are some instances when BBL is not an appropriate treatment. People who have actively tanned in the past four weeks or used spray tan in the past two weeks should not get BBL. Patients should stop using Retin-A for at least 72-hours before getting the treatment.
Some additional conditions that would prohibit your provider from offering you Forever Young BBL™ are:
- History of skin cancer (must be cleared by derm)
- History of photosensitivity or melasma
- Medical conditions that affect wound healing
- Use of medication for which light exposure is a issue
- Use of anticoagulant medication
- Pregnancy or breastfeeding
