When Drs. Lieberman & Parikh started their practice over 15 years ago, they made giving back one of the pillars of their practice philosophy. Every year since, the two surgeons have spent considerable time providing essential surgeries to people in need, educating the next generation of healthcare professionals, and giving back to the South Bay and greater Bay Area communities.
The HUGS (Help Us Give Smiles) Foundation is a medical mission–driven nonprofit dedicated to transforming the lives of children born with facial differences by providing free surgeries to those who would otherwise have no access to care. Since completing his fellowship with HUGS founder Dr. Vito Quatela, Dr. Lieberman has traveled regularly with the organization to offer life-changing, complimentary surgeries. Dr. Parikh began his work with HUGS more than five years ago, and together, he and Dr. Lieberman have made it a priority to return annually.
For Drs. Lieberman, Parikh, and each year’s AAFPRS surgical fellow, the annual trip to Guatemala is focused on performing microtia repairs. Microtia is a congenital condition in which the outer ear is underdeveloped, ranging from mild deformities with normal hearing to more severe cases involving significant hearing loss and a small or absent external ear. The physical and cultural challenges associated with this condition can be profound for both the child and their family.
These surgeries not only improve appearance and function but also open doors that might otherwise remain closed — opportunities for greater social acceptance, a stronger sense of belonging, access to better education, and the chance for a brighter future.
These patients are often seen by the surgeons year after year, getting check-ups on their previous surgery and making any necessary adjustments, creating lasting relationships with patients and their families. During their trips to Guatemala, Drs. Lieberman and Parikh see several patients whom they had previously operated on and begin relationships with new patients who would be seen for years to come.
In 2025, L&P Aesthetics wanted to do more for HUGS. Ahead of their surgical mission, Drs. Lieberman and Parikh set a community goal to raise $50,000 for the nonprofit, hoping to ensure that the impactful work they do can expand beyond the communities HUGS already supports. While Drs. L&P donated their time and expertise to perform reconstruction surgeries, our community helped them provide complete care by providing additional funds for additional anesthesia, in-clinic meals, medications, and post-operative care. The incredible generosity of Iron Lady Foundation gave our campaign the kickstart we needed, pledging to match $50,000! Through single donations, in-clinic round-ups, and an auction full of incredible prizes, we were able to not only reach the initial goal of $50,000 but also exceed it! Over $156,000 was donated to HUGS, promising to provide care to patients for years to come.
Congratulations on raising over $155,000.00! The generosity of all those who gave will have a lasting impact on children and adults around the world, and we are truly grateful for your commitment to HUGS.
In addition to using their surgical expertise to give back, Drs. Lieberman and Parikh are dedicated to training the next generation of facial plastic surgeons and medical professionals. In 2017, they welcomed their first AAFPRS fellowship trainee and have continued to serve as fellowship directors ever since. Each fellow spends a full year with Drs. Lieberman and Parikh, as well as two other partner practices, learning advanced techniques in facial plastic surgery. Their alumni network now spans the country, with former fellows providing world-class care in California, New York, Chicago, and beyond.
Outside of the AAFPRS fellowship, Drs. L&P also mentor local students, from high school to college, by sharing their educational paths and passion for facial plastic surgery. Whether presenting to undergraduate students at Stanford University or opening their practice and operating room to high school interns, L&P Aesthetics is committed to creating hands-on learning opportunities.
Additionally, Drs. Lieberman and Parikh volunteer quarterly at Silicon Valley Surgery Center, where Stanford University residents observe the advanced surgical techniques that define the L&P Aesthetics standard.
L&P Aesthetics also gives back to the local San Francisco Bay Area in meaningful ways such as donating to mission-aligned charities, supporting educational auctions and helping local causes that align with our values. In addition, Drs. Lieberman and Parikh volunteer their services to local nonprofits such as Next Door Solutions to Domestic Violence (NDS), a Santa Clara County’s domestic violence agency, providing services to over 3,000 survivors of domestic violence annually. Through a partnership with NDS, L&P Aesthetics provides an opportunity for survivors to receive reconstructive surgery at no charge. These surgeries can change the lives of survivors, and we are proud to offer them to those in our community who need them.
Connecting with our communities, whether they are across the street or across the world, is something that we truly value at L&P Aesthetics, and we look forward to continuing to make a difference.
They have made philanthropic efforts a cornerstone of their careers. Whether working abroad through international outreach organizations, or locally through community groups, both doctors make these efforts a priority.
Doctors Lieberman and Parikh are active participants in international medical mission work, helping teams of health care professionals treat children born with facial deformities such as cleft lip, cleft palate and ear malformations. They have seen firsthand that not only will these operations repair a deformity, but they will help each child feel normal again, restoring their confidence and preventing alienation by their community. For most of these children, this is not just a correction of a cosmetic deformity but an opportunity for an education, for acceptance into their family. It is really a second chance for leading a productive and happy life.
As a medical student, Dr. Parikh founded FSUCares, an organization that provides care for the underserved domestically and abroad. He was awarded the Robin McDougal Award for increasing access to medical care and the Florida Medical Association recognized him with the Sanford A. Mullen award for outstanding community service. He has been a volunteer surgeon for HEALING THE CHILDREN, traveling internationally to perform operations on children with cleft lips and cleft palates. Dr. Parikh has performed humanitarian medical missions in Colombia, Jamaica, Honduras and Panama. Dr. Parikh was also part of the surgical team which featured his mentor Dr. Andrew Jacono on the Discovery Fit & Health and Oprah Winfrey Network’s reality television show Facing Trauma, a series that followed the life-changing stories of women with facial disfigurements as a result of trauma or domestic violence.
Humanitarian work is essential to Dr. Lieberman’s surgical and clinical career. He has travelled abroad to Ecuador, Vietnam, Guatemala and Cuba as part of these efforts. He performs ear reconstruction for children born without an ear (microtia repair) as a surgeon in the HUGS organization (Help Us Give Smiles). Dr. Lieberman has been featured on local and national radio (Dr. Lieberman’s Interview) speaking on behalf of this organization and is honored to continue this work.
Both Doctors Lieberman and Parikh continue to make local humanitarian work an integral part of their mission. By partnering with local groups and Face to Face, a national program, both doctors offer services pro bono to victims of domestic abuse.
