Why Choose L&P Aesthetics for Your Revision Facelift?

Most revision facelift surgery is done after the first facelift either to maintain the youthful appearance of the original surgery or to enhance the older facelifting technique where surgeons simply pulled the skin taut and cut the remnants off. This older style of facelifting is a one-dimensional approach that usually makes people look unnaturally stiff or windswept.

Not many surgeons are qualified to perform a deep-plane facelift but when done well, the results of a L&P Signature Facelift or an L&P revision facelift in Palo Alto & Los Gatos can lead to a more natural, vibrant you.

What to Expect Before Facelift Revision Surgery

In your initial meeting with one of our top-rated plastic surgeons, you will discuss your aspirations, review your medical background, and evaluate your skin and facial structure.

It’s essential for patients to be open about the reasons for embarking on this journey. Clear expectations and realistic goals are crucial for achieving a successful outcome and maintaining a healthy relationship with your physician.

You will be provided with specific guidelines regarding pre-surgery protocols, including which medications and supplements to refrain from. Our team will also educate you on lifestyle changes that can enhance your results. At the iO Clinic, we offer various modalities to prepare patients for facial surgery, such as minimizing toxin exposure, using targeted IV nutrition, and potentially utilizing our hyperbaric oxygen therapy chamber (HBOT) to enhance tissue oxygenation before surgery.

Additionally, we collaborate with our team to improve skin quality ahead of surgery. Following the right topical skincare regimen will enhance surgical results by promoting healthy cell turnover and preparing your skin for the trauma of surgery.

What to Expect During Facelift Revision Surgery

From a surgical standpoint, a revision facelift requires additional considerations because people who have already had a facelift usually have thinner skin, scar tissue and potentially other issues left over from the original procedure.

Our top-rated facelift surgeons perform all facelift surgeries at our state-of-the-art, private and fully accredited surgery center, AAASC, located in the same building as L&P Aesthetics in Palo Alto, CA. When possible, they use the same incision site from the first facelift or they revise the sites to better locations to make the scars less visible (usually in the natural creases in front of the ears).

As many facelifts performed by other surgeons are SMAS facelifts (vs a deep-plane facelift), our facelift surgeons will first address areas of scar tissue and then move into un-operated tissues in the deep plane of the face and neck. During this time, they will resuspend the fat and muscles below the skin to create more youthful contours. They are also able to correct asymmetries in facial features and potentially remove any remaining scar tissues.

As with all facelift surgeries, the patient will then be bandaged to keep down bruising and swelling.

What to Expect After Facelift Revision Surgery

We prioritize educating patients on lifestyle changes that can optimize their recovery. We assemble a supportive team to ensure that all health aspects are addressed. Our team discusses optimizing healing through services at The IO Clinic, getting mentally ready for the transformation, and ensuring proper nutrition, exercise, and sleep. A comprehensive approach is necessary for the best experience. While recovery experiences differ, many facelift patients find their healing process more manageable than anticipated. What is a Revision Facelift?

A revision facelift, also known as a secondary facelift, is a surgical procedure performed to correct or improve the results of a previous facelift surgery. This procedure is typically sought when the initial facelift did not achieve the desired outcome due to factors such as inadequate tightening, asymmetry, or complications. Revision facelifts require specialized techniques tailored to each patient’s unique anatomy and goals, aiming to restore or enhance the appearance of the face for a more natural and rejuvenated look.

Because they are known for their natural-looking facelift results,board-certified surgeons Drs. Lieberman, Parikh, and Curti are often asked to perform revision facelift surgery by people from Palo Alto, Los Gatos,San Jose, Santa Clara, and around the Bay Area. They specialize in the gold-standard for facelifting, the deep-plane facelift, which works on an entirely different level of tissue than older techniques.

The average facelift usually lasts about 10 years; however, how long a person’s results last depends on the quality of the facelift procedure performed and a person’s genetic makeup, as well as level of health.

If you feel that your original facelift no longer improves your appearance or if you are simply dissatisfied with your facelift because of scarring, asymmetry or other issues from a previous surgery, it is usually the right time to consider a revision facelift.

Revision Facelift Recovery and Beyond

The recovery for a revision facelift is almost identical to that of the initial facelift. While most patients do not need to stay overnight at AAASC, all patients will need to plan for at least 10 days of focused rest. At this time, people often feel comfortable going out in public but it will take many months, if not a year, to see the full results. If you’re interested in recovering outside of your home with a recovery nurse, our patient care coordinator and patient concierge will help you arrange your accommodations and support crew.

To see if a revision facelift is right for you, request your consultation online or call (650) 327-3232 to schedule an appointment to see one of our facial plastic surgeons in the Bay Area at our Palo Alto or Los Gatos offices.

Revision Facelift FAQs

Patients seek revision facelifts for several reasons:

  • Natural aging: To maintain their rejuvenated appearance as the face continues to age naturally after the original surgery.
  • Technique advancement: To upgrade from an older facelift technique to modern approaches (like deep plane or the L&P Signature Facelift) that deliver more comprehensive, longer-lasting results.
  • Previous result concerns: To address issues from prior surgery such as asymmetry, unnatural appearance, or inadequate correction.

Many of our revision facelift patients originally had procedures performed elsewhere and seek our expertise for improved outcomes. Our double board-certified facial plastic surgeons specialize in helping patients achieve the beautiful, natural results they deserve.

A revision plan starts with understanding what was done previously and what you want to improve now.

Yes, it is absolutely safe for healthy individuals with good skin quality to have second or third facelifts.

Optimal timing is typically at least 7–10 years after the previous procedure, depending on the technique used and your individual aging patterns. During your consultation, we’ll evaluate your facial tissue quality and recommend appropriate timing.

At L&P Aesthetics, your safety is always our first priority. We perform thorough evaluations to ensure you’re an excellent candidate before proceeding with any surgery.

You should wait a minimum of 12 months after your initial facelift before considering revision surgery. This allows adequate time for:

  • Complete healing of facial tissues
  • Resolution of all swelling
  • Final settling of results

At the 12-month mark, you’ll have a clear picture of your outcomes and can make an informed decision about whether revision is needed or desired. We recommend scheduling a consultation at that time so your surgeon can evaluate your results and discuss your options.

A revision facelift can address various concerns from prior surgery, including:

  • Inadequate tightening or early relapse of sagging
  • Asymmetry between facial sides
  • Unnatural appearance such as a “pulled” or “windswept” look
  • Visible scarring from previous incisions
  • Incomplete correction of jowls, neck, or mid-face
  • Complications from prior surgery

Our surgeons specialize in revision cases and will develop a customized surgical plan to address your specific concerns. We’re here to help you achieve the natural, refreshed results you’ve been hoping for.

No, revision facelift recovery is generally comparable to initial facelift recovery. Here’s what you can expect:

  • First 10–14 days: Focused rest at home
  • After 2–3 weeks: Most patients feel comfortable going out and resuming light activities
  • 6–12 months: Full results become apparent as residual swelling resolves

Our team will provide detailed recovery guidance and support you throughout your healing journey.

Several factors influence how long facelift results last:

  • Surgical technique: Older techniques that only addressed skin (without lifting deeper structures) typically provide shorter-lasting results
  • Surgeon experience: Technical precision significantly impacts longevity
  • Genetics: Some individuals naturally age faster than others
  • Lifestyle factors: Sun exposure, smoking, weight fluctuations, and skincare habits all play a role

Modern facelift techniques such as SMAS or Deep Plane Facelifts work on deeper facial tissues, delivering more comprehensive rejuvenation and longer-lasting results. Our L&P Signature Facelift, our most advanced technique, can deliver 15+ years of natural-looking results.

When performed by an experienced, double board-certified facial plastic surgeon using modern techniques, revision facelift results can last 10–15 years. With our L&P Signature Facelift technique, patients can expect results lasting 15+ years.

Longevity depends on the technique used, your individual anatomy, and lifestyle factors. During your consultation, we’ll discuss realistic expectations based on your specific situation.

Individual results may vary.
