A few months ago, the New York Times Magazine featured a story about collaboration and teams in the workplace that we found interesting because it acknowledged some theories we’ve known to be true for a long time.
The article, What Google Learned From Its Quest To Build the Perfect Team, revealed that teams or groups of individuals work more effectively together than just one really smart employee working on his or her own. The study also found that the most outstanding teams have members with shared experiences and mutual respect. Here’s an excerpt:
“In Silicon Valley, software engineers are encouraged to work together, in part because studies show that groups tend to innovate faster, see mistakes more quickly and find better solutions to problems. Studies also show that people working in teams tend to achieve better results and report higher job satisfaction.”
