If there were a cream that would literally prevent your skin from aging, would you buy it?

Of course you would! Chances are, if you’re reading this blog, you care about looking and feeling your best, so you may be surprised to know that this cream exists and you most likely own it.

When used daily, a broad-spectrum sunscreen of at least 15 SPF will literally stop the appearance of aging.  Researchers in Australia asked one group of people to regularly apply sunscreen on their faces, arms and hands and told another group just to do what they normally do in terms of skin protection. At the end of the study, dermatologists could not detect any signs of aging on the hands of the people who had been wearing sunscreen.

Wearing sunscreen is the most important thing you can do for your skin. We carry several high-end sunscreens that will keep your skin absolutely protected. Contact us here for more information.

Why use SPF 30

Sun Protection Factor (SPF) refers to the level of protection a product provides against ultraviolet light. The American Academy of Dermatology recommends SPF 30 since it blocks at least 97% of the sun’s rays. Anything higher may block slightly more, but all sunscreens need to be reapplied every couple of hours, no matter the SPF level.

Why you need broad spectrum protection

Broad spectrum sunscreen protects against both UVA and UVB rays.

UVA rays penetrate more deeply than UVB rays which will prematurely age the dermis and cause wrinkles that lead to age spots.

  • 50% of all  UVA rays penetrate the windshield.
  • UVA rays have the same intensity all day long, all year round and are not affected by weather conditions.

UVB rays penetrate less deeply, are the primary cause of sunburns and play a key role in the development of skin cancer.

As much as we love the sun-kissed look, we want to make sure our patients protect their skin against skin cancer, brown spots (sun-spots) and premature aging due to sun-exposure. Lather up!
